Sports Betting in Colorado – What are the Rules?
Colorado is an active gambling state home to 30+ land-based casinos. In May 2019, the CO General Assembly approved statewide sports betting. However, due to the CO Taxpayer Bill of Rights, the final decision was up to voters in a November referendum. The results were positive, and HB 1327 was signed into law by Governor Jared Polis.
HB 1327 made way for legal online and in-person sports betting, allowing each of the state’s 33 casinos to open a sportsbook and online skin. It includes a 10% tax rate for operators and lower-than-average licensing fees. There are 26+ legal and licensed CO sportsbooks in 2026.
- You must be 21+ to gamble online or in-person in CO.
- All regulation is controlled and overseen by the Gaming Division Colorado.
- All online sportsbooks must partner with land-based casinos for licensing partnerships.
- Unless tribal establishments, all retail sportsbooks in this state must be located in Black Hawk, Central City, and Cripple Creek.

When will Colorado Online Casinos Launch?
Currently, there’s no news about if and when Colorado online casinos might launch. However, like in other US states that have regulated sports betting, some experts believe online casinos won’t be far behind.
How Can I Play Casino Games in CO?
If you’re looking for online slots Colorado, table games, and much more, you can still play at a legal and secure sweepstakes casino. These are social gambling Colorado sites that provide all the casino games (slots, tables, jackpots, and in some cases even live dealers) of a real money gambling site but don’t have real money payouts.
Instead, Colorado sweepstakes casinos use virtual coins that you’ll win and earn through bonuses; you’ll then stake these and work your way through the casino lobby. Social gambling in Colorado is popular, legal, and provides plenty of entertainment.
